Why are Desi Parents so into their Kids Being Doctors?

So, what's up with desi parents being so into the careers of Engineering and Medicine? In this episode, we discuss what might be driving so many desi parents to tell their kids to pursue medicine/engineering.

(featuring the one and only Sanjay Dutt). We thought this clip perfectly exemplified some of the desi parental feelings toward medicine.

09:12 – We play a clip from the Bollywood movie Three Idiots – starring Aamir Khan! In this scene, we show what happens when Farhan (one of the characters) tells his dad he wants to be a photographer instead of an engineer. This reinforces the “risk averse” nature of the desi parental mentality.
